NEW YORK, NY — Priests for Life has offered its congratulations and pledged its continuing support to two archbishops named last week to high profile Vatican positions by Pope Benedict XVI. Also, the New York-based ministry thanked Cardinal Ennis Antonelli, outgoing president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, for his service.
The Right Rev. Arthur Roche has been elevated to Archbishop and named Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia was appointed to lead the Pontifical Council for the Family.
In a letter hand-delivered to Archbishop Paglia, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said, “We at Priests for Life have been greatly blessed through the years with the opportunity to serve the Pontifical Council for the Family in various capacities.” He said the organization renews “our complete commitment of service to your Council as it presently begins a new era under your leadership.” Father Pavone served the Council in Rome for two years in the 1990s.
Father Pavone noted the support Archbishop-elect Roche has given to Rachel’s Vineyard and said “please rest assured of our offer of assistance to you at the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.”
In his letter to Cardinal Antonelli, Father Pavone wrote, “we call to mind the great apostolic witness you have given the Church and world in illustrating the transcendent beauty and dignity of Marriage, Family, and indeed Life itself.”
