WASHINGTON, D.C. — At a meeting last week of its board of directors, the National Pro-life Religious Council (NPRC), by a unanimous vote, re-elected Fr. Frank Pavone President of this inter-denominational organization that seeks to end abortion and equip the Church to proclaim the Gospel of Life.
“Thank you for your ongoing trust; it is a privilege to serve the organization in this way,” Fr. Frank said to the board members. The other officers of the organization were also re-elected to serve another term, and they are Rev. Kirk van der Swaagh, Vice President; Rev. Dennis DiMauro, Secretary, and Mr. Ernie Ohlhoff, Treasurer.
Along with his role as National Director of Priests for Life, Fr. Frank’s leadership of the NPRC enables him to serve even more effectively the interdenominational needs of the pro-life movement. “As Pope Saint John Paul II wrote in Evangelium Vitae, “No single person or group has a monopoly on the defense and promotion of life. These are everyone’s task and responsibility” (EV 91). In that same paragraph, he explains,
‘Service of the Gospel of life is thus an immense and complex task. This service increasingly appears as a valuable and fruitful area for positive cooperation with our brothers and sisters of other Churches and ecclesial communities, in accordance with the practical ecumenism which the Second Vatican Council authoritatively encouraged. It also appears as a providential area for dialogue and joint efforts with the followers of other religions and with all people of good will.’
“The NPRC has provided a key role in bearing witness to the historic, Biblical, Christian teaching on the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. This is a particularly urgent need, in light of the fact that some denominations have abandoned that teaching by asserting that some child-killing is morally justified, and the fact that some groups have even been formed to explicitly present abortion as an act consistent with Scripture and to have liturgies that ask God’s blessing upon that action. In reality, however, there is only one proper Christian response to our brothers and sisters still in the womb, and that is to welcome and protect them; there is, moreover, only one proper Christian response to their parents, and that is to take their hands and provide for them life-giving alternatives to abortion,” concluded Fr. Frank.
Fr. Frank was also re-elected unanimously by the Priests for Life board at its most recent meeting to continue his role as National Director. Priests for Life is the largest ministry in the Catholic Church focused on ending abortion.
